This collection contains a register, arranged chronologically by date received, of human cadavers received by the Anatomical Board to be distributed to medical and dental facilities more for research. Information provided for each cadaver includes name, gender, color, age, place of birth, marital status, and occupation, date received, date and cause of death, physician's name, where received from and delivered to, tag number, whether cut or uncut, condition, and the claimed, substitute, or buried tag number. In addition, there is a monthly consolidated report of receipts from institutions giving the total number of bodies, the number of cut and uncut bodies, the number of white or black males and females, the number or bodies in good, bad and fair condition, the number of claimed, substitute, and buried cut and uncut bodies, and occasional remarks regarding each institution providing cadavers to the Anatomical Board. less

This collection includes quarterly meeting minutes and agendas of the Fish Commission and its successor the Fish and Boat Commission. This collecton contains a minute book, arranged chronologically by date of entry, describing the daily activities of the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia that ran from more July 15, 1776, until September 26, 1776. Among the actions described are those of the Bill of Rights Committee, the Council of Safety, the manufacturing of paper money bills, and actions taken to prevent counterfeiting. Information provided concerns the raising of troops for frontier defense. Important references are found to Benjamin Franklin, John Wilkinson, Jacob Morgan, and David Rittenhouse. Transcripts of the resolutions and discussions of the various members of the convention are present. The minute book ends with the adjournment of the convention on August 30, 1776. less

Correspondence, contracts, memoranda of agreements, design specifications, sketches and blueprints relating to the location and erection of monuments and markers authorized by the Pennsylvania General Assembly more and erected under the authority of the Gettysburg Monuments Commission. Originally collected by Brevet Lieutenant Colonel John P. Nicholson who served as Secretary of the Commission, these records were formerly bound into volumes and presented to the State Library of Pennsylvania in 1903. Among the information provided is name of regiment and county where association of survivors was located, names and addresses of survivors appointed to cooperate with the Commission in locating the sites for monuments, and their dates of appointment. Also given are dates military units were mustered in and out and the number of soldiers in each unit who were killed, wounded, captured or missing at Gettysburg. Other records scattered through the series provide the names of casualties in each corps, correspondence with contractors, and sketches of monuments. Various documents relating to stocks, securities, and currency once maintained by the State Treasurer. Documents include: a power of attorney covering assignment of Commonwealth certificates of more stock issued pursuant to Act 202 of 1839; correspondence relating to the transfer of stock and payment of dividends from the Sea Girt Land Investment Company and the Spring Lake Beach Improvement Company; and securities, currency, and supporting records turned over to the Treasury Department pursuant to Act 80 of 1895, which authorized and directed the Auditor General to release to the State Treasurer certain securities and currencies held by the Auditor General for the redemption of such outstanding notes of the Downington Bank and the National Bank of Pennsylvania at Pottsville, both of which banks surrendered their charters in 1864 and 1866 respectively. The securities and currencies were to be held by the State Treasurer for the redemption of any possible notes of these banks which might be presented for redemption. Images are unarranged. This collection contains applications made to, and proclamations issued by, the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons. Grouped into applications and proclamations and then arranged chronologically by date more of action. The applications volumes provide brief narrative case histories and recommendations for pardons or commutations and whether the pardons or commutations were granted. Volume 1 covering the period 1874-1877 provides reasons why the Pardon Board made its recommendations while for the period 1882-1930 records of commutation actions are included. The last volume covering the period 1931-1934 contains mostly commutation records with only a few pardon actions. This collection contains meeting minutes, arranged chronologically by date of meeting, of the Sanitary Water Board. Information includes time, date and location of the meeting, a more list of the names of members and staff present, a synopsis of discussions, and the signature of the Secretary of the Board. Also present are reports from various agencies, including the Department of Health, Department of Mines, Fish Commission, Department of Forests and Waters, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Commerce. The minutes document the approval of permits for sewage and industrial waste treatment and mine drainage discharges. The volume for 1923 contains an index. less

These groups were created by the Governor's Office, and more reported directly to the Governor on concerns affecting sportsmen in the state, most notably hunting and fishing issues. Included are agendas and meeting minutes of the Governor's Youth Sportsmen Advisory Council for the years 2002 and 2003; year-end reports of the Governor's Sportsman Advisory Council, 1996-1998; reading files of both Councils, 2001-2003, which include articles, correspondence, legislation, meeting minutes, etc.; and the personal files of the first executive director of the Governor's Sportsman Advisory Council, Vern Ross, 1996-1999. less

This collection contains meeting minute books, arranged chronologically by meeting date, of the State Board of Education. A typical record includes the date, time and location more of the meeting, a list of the names of those members attending the meeting, and a summary of the discussion. Topics discussed include admission requirements, committee appointments, curricula, appropriations, expenses, investigations, lighted school rooms, graduation requirements, conditions of school buildings, legislation, physical education, vocational education, and federal education reports and plans. The minute book index cards date from 1920 to 1997 and provide information on actions and subjects discussed during board meetings, the date of the discussions and the resulting actions with dates.

This collection, arranged chronologically, contains the applications submitted by motion picture film companies requesting the Board of Censors to review their films. The application gives the more title of the film; the name of the manufacturer; the names of the leading actors and actresses; the number and length of reels; the style of film and indicates whether the film was approved without changes, approved with eliminations, or condemned outright. If the film was approved with eliminations, an Eliminations Form is attached and lists the specific changes that needed to be made. There is often also present a Memorandum of Changes form that reveals when requested eliminations or changes were made and when the Board approved the film. Some applications have copies of the script attached. less

Also included are a few legal briefs, more press releases and movie reviews. The correspondence were received by or sent to Abraham Levy, Special Deputy Attorney General, citizens, clergy, motion picture companies, officials from Pennsylvania state government agencies, and officials from agencies in other states such as Ohio, New York and Maryland. Subjects included are the films "The Birth of a Baby" and "She Shoulda Said No"; censorship; news clippings; clergyman and women's clubs; television censorship; condemned motion pictures; complaints; and soviet films. Correspondence discuss the review of motion picture films by the board, revisions to make the movie appropriate for release, denial for release of the film, opinions from agency officials and other states regarding the film's content. less

Information contained in the minutes provides the name and manufacturer more of the motion picture films reviewed, whether they were approved without change, approved with eliminations, or condemned. If the film was approved with changes or condemned the reason and required revisions were listed. The minutes also list contacts with film manufacturers who appealed the review of films by the Board of Censors. less

This collection contains a wide variety of documents,l arranged by subject, providing insight into the Board's operating procedures. Among the materials present are Fines, 1919-1947, that more list the fines assessed to movie theaters for showing films that were not edited to meet the Board's requirements or did not show the Board's seal of approval and Certificates of Censorship, 1915-1951, that are the official forms sent to the manufacturer to indicate if a film has been approved, approved with eliminations, or not approved. This collection includes letter books that contain correspondence relative to general forestry issues, which contain name and address of the recipient, date composed, and text of more the correspondence are present. The vast majority of the letters were sent from Commissioner of Forestry Joseph T. Rothrock to various individuals or county political entities, such as the Clarion County Commissioners. A number of the files deal with financial issues, including fire claims, land transactions, and supply requests. Other topics discuss the appointment of forest fire detectives, tree species identification, timber poachers, pro-forestry legislation, etc. This collection also includes Commissioner of Forestry records of correspondence sent. Information given is name and address of person to whom sent, date of correspondence, and text of the letter. Topics include planting of seedlings, land acquisition, conditions of campsites and trails, activities of the Chestnut Tree Blight Commission and fire risks. less

The collection contains Minutes and Orders of Business relative to the meetings of the State Forestry Reservation Commission and the State Forest Commission. Convened in Harrisburg more on December 14, 1899 under the terms of an act to secure state forestry reservations passed on May 28, 1899, the Commission was chaired by Forestry Commissioner Joseph T. Rothrock of West Chester, and also consisted of Deputy Secretary of Internal Affairs Isaac Brown of Corry, President of the State Board of Health John Fulton of Johnstown, as well as A. C. Hopkins of Lock Haven and Albert Lewis of Bear Creek in Luzerne County who were appointed by the governor. Renamed the State Forest Commission in September 1919, the format of the minutes remaining unchanged. The Orders of Business duplicate the minutes, seeming to serve as a rough draft for their finished versions. Included are the names and salaries of numerous Department employees, camp site receipts for all State Forests, general receipts, operation receipts, correspondence, land issues, applications to the bureaus relative to various issues, lease proposals, etc. Examples of specific types of data present include: salaries incurred for forest officers, scientific and other necessary employees; a listing for a camp site receipt of $8.00 charged to W.L. Fox at Delaware State Forest; a listing for a camp site lease to W.T. Morrow of Altoona for site #50154, Jackson Township, Huntingdon County ($7.00); and an application by R.G.
